‘My son is not fine’: Texas is failing kids who need us the most | Opinion
By law, a school has 45 days to conduct this evaluation from the time that a parent requests it. Unfortunately, many families in Texas are seeing this deadline completely ignored, writes Layla Parast.My son has always been difficult. While other infants would lie on their boppy pillows peacefully in Mommy & Me class, my son was a screaming terror unless he was eating or sleeping. Boys are challenging when they are young, I was told, but easier when they are older.
My son needs help, and a behavioral evaluation is the first step. But the wait time for evaluations is abysmal, and we desperately need them to be more timely.
