The Way: What the Must Watch reviewers think
This week, Hayley Campbell and Scott Bryan join 5 Live presenter Nihal Arthanayake to review The Way.
Directed by Welsh actor Michael Sheen and co-created by Adam Curtis, the political documentary-filmmaker, The Way taps into the social and political chaos of today’s world by imagining a civil uprising which begins in a small industrial town. Fleeing unrest, The Driscolls are forced to escape the country they’ve always called home and the certainties of their old lives.
“Obviously, James Graham is a great writer anyway, but this feels like a perfect collaboration for him. He grew up in a mining town and he knows how emotional a strike in a small town can be. And remember, he used that experience when he wrote Sherwood, which we all thought was one of the best TV shows of 2022.
“And this is one of those incredibly weird shows that feels very unlikely in the scheme of the kind of stuff that gets made. And I really love that money was invested in something like this and they were allowed to go as strange and as peculiarly Welsh as this. And I want more things like this to happen”.Scott: “I'm going to disagree with Hayley. I really wanted to enjoy this.
