Muslim N.J. mayor barred from White House Eid al-Fitr celebration, group says
A New Jersey group has condemned the actions of the United States Secret Service, which it said banned the state’s longest-serving Muslim mayor from entering a White House celebration of Muslim Americans.Prospect Park Mayor Mohamed T. Khairullah
Moments before he was set to arrive for the celebration, Khairullah received a call stating that because he had not been cleared for entry, his invitation to the White House Eid celebration was effectively revoked, according to CAIR, which describes its mission as protecting the civil rights of American Muslims.
“While we regret any inconvenience this may have caused, the mayor was not allowed to enter the White House complex this evening,” Anthony Guglielmi, Chief of Communications for the United States Secret Service, told NJ Advance Media.
