Bastwell’s Masjid-al-Momineen wants to construct the community hall and mortuary on vacant land on the opposite side of Ash Street. The Kokni Muslim Welfare Society has submitted a planning application to Blackburn with Darwen Council for the new community and funeral centre comprising community hall, mortuary, and ancillary facilities
“The site is previously developed land, formerly occupied by a terraced houses that were demolished in the 1980s. The intention is to create a facility that is purpose built with a dedicated Ghusl Khana, for washing and shrouding the body in accordance with Islamic funeral practices.“The building is to provide facilities for the immediate family of the deceased for the three days prior to burial.
“The building is proposed to be single storey with level access from the on-site parking. This will allow the building to be accessible to all.
