And Rendon, a senior linebacker for the Coyotes, will proudly wear the number this year — switching from No. 34.
The team’s seniors and coaches selected Rendon to wear No. 21. Miller said the team’s No. 21 should embody the humble, hard-working spirit of the community. He said it’s the best way the Coyotes can honor the victims. And Rendon was the perfect choice to wear No. 21. In many ways, practicing and working out at the school offers a respite from the harsh realities of the tragedy’s aftermath some players face when they go home. Miller said two of his players lost relatives in the shooting.
Jeyden Gonzales said the town’s named “Uvalde” is forever attached to the tragedy and it will be difficult to separate themselves from it.
