'More and more businesses are throwing in the towel'
. Zombie businesses have been limping along for many years, and the banks made a point of supporting firms through Covid in an attempt to right their wrongs from the financial crisis a decade before, but they are now withdrawing support. Companies are also facing HMRC arrears that are now being chased down, increasing energy bills, supply chain disruption, less supplier credit and Government-backed loans that need repaying. It’s a perfect storm that some businesses can no longer weather.
”, delivered much the same verdict: “In the fourth quarter of 2022 and so far in 2023, we have seen an increase in businesses fearing administration may be inevitable, as their cash flow position has deteriorated so seriously. Instead of just not being profitable, they are in some cases out of cash full stop and are not able to meet the fixed overheads and staff costs that enable them to operate.
