The director of Morbius confirms that a potentially different SpiderMan exists in the Sony universe (as well as some different versions of other Marvel characters like Iron Man, the Fantastic Four, and more).
Director Daniel Espinosa establishes that Spider-Man exists within the same universe as Sony’s Morbius. After the success of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man movies, Sony has released movies centering on Marvel characters like Venom and now Morbius in the upcoming movie. Morbius is set to follow biochemist Michael Morbius as he infects himself with a form of vampirism after attempting to cure his rare blood disease.
Audiences were given a closer look at the character when a Morbius trailer riddled with Sony Marvel easter eggs was finally released. There are several nods to other Marvel characters, most notably Spider-Man. Prominently featured in the promotional footage is some Spider-Man street art that has been graffitied with the word “murderer.
Of course! I mean, in almost all Spider-Verse or, you know, the that existed in the Marvel universe, if you read the comic books, the whole idea of that kind of – the Marvel string theory, if you would call it that. It's very related to, if you remember, the alternative Seinfelds. You have a world where you have the same characters, and it's ALL of the characters, but they are slightly different.
Street art wasn’t the only Spider-Man link, as Michael Keaton was revealed to be part of the Morbius cast in the trailer. After his role in Spider-Man: Homecoming, whether the Vulture would return or not was left ambiguous, though it was later confirmed by Keaton, who revealed he was filming a secret project as Adrian Toomes a.k.a. Vulture. While it may be easy to presume that these characters are one and the same, there hasn’t been an official confirmation.
The future of Holland’s Spider-Man has been unclear since No Way Home seemingly rounded off his trilogy, however, the constant teases from Sony suggest that they’re far from finished with the character. With this in mind, Leto is eager to see Morbius and Spider-Man interact, suggesting a fight between the pair. Unfortunately, Espinosa doesn’t give fans a very clear-cut answer about which Spider-Man is in Morbius.
