Montgomery County is restarting its litter control program that will use jail inmates to help clean up roads.

Trash and debris are seen as workers with Montgomery County Precinct 4 clear an overgrown section of Kelly Road near Texas 105 in 2021.

Precinct 2 Commissioner Charlie Riley and Precinct 4 Commissioner Matt Gray will fund four detention officers and a sergeant to oversee the program through the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. On YourConroeNews.com: “We are happy to be doing and partnering with the sheriff to start cleaning up Precinct 4,” Gray said. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Texas Commission on Jail Standards implemented restrictions pausing the program.

“I’m glad we are getting it back up and running,” Riley said. “I’m looking forward to getting our roads cleaned up too. It’s a mess. You just don’t realize how much trash people can throw out on the road.”Gray said the additional deputies will limit the contraband that makes it back into the jail.A start date for the program was not available.
