Six-building development near Sprinter station will include 33 units reserved for very low income households
Oceanside has approved a six-building, multi-story, mixed-use development near the Vista border with 323 apartments, a parking garage and ground-floor space for restaurants and shops.
A previous developer proposed a 50,000-square-foot shopping center for the site that included a service station and convenience market, car wash, retail stores, a restaurant, and food and beverage sales. The Planning Commission denied that application in 2008 based on an incompatibility with nearby uses, which are mostly residential.
The developer, Mill Creek Residential Trust, is one of the largest and most respected residential builders in the country, said representative Dan Niebaum of the Lightfoot Planning Group in Carlsbad. The company recently filed an application with the Oceanside Planning Division to build an eight-story, mixed-use development with 362 apartments and 62 hotel rooms on North Coast Highway.
