The 38-year-old man had been reported missing by his family, having last been seen four months before the fire.
A body found at the site of a wildfire in the Sierra Nevada foothills has been identified as that of a man who had been missing for months, the Tuolumne County sheriff’s office said.
After thermal damage thwarted initial attempts to identify the bones, DNA analysis by a state Justice Department laboratory identified the dead person as Robert Frank Baiko, the sheriff’s office said Thursday. The body was found off a rural road west of the town, close to the fire’s ignition site. Sheriff’s investigators determined that Baiko was dead before the fire broke out.
