The protestors marched from Nubian Square to City Hall to urge Boston City Council to reallocate Boston police funding to youth jobs programs like SuccessLink, violence prevention, and to hire additional mental health counselors in Boston Public Schools. This past Sunday, the council announced plans to disband its police department and invest in community-based public safety programs.
City Council President Lisa Bender, along with a majority of council members that cannot be vetoed by Mayor Jacob Frey, announced a plan to “end our city’s toxic relationship with the Minneapolis Police Department."
