Some ministers and aides have been unwilling to toe the No 10 line over the Prime Minister’s handling of the Chris Pincher affair, amid a slew of allegations against the former deputy chief whip stretching back years, amid a breakdown in collective discipline down over the scandal,It comes as Downing Street was forced to admit that Boris Johnson was aware that Chris Pincher had been accused of sexual misconduct when he was given a government job.
Junior education minister Will Quince was forced to deny he was sent out on yesterday’s media round because no Cabinet minister was willing to defend Mr Johnson.Asked whether the former deputy chief whip should have been given a ministerial job, Ms Atkins replied: “Well, again, it’s a matter for the Prime Minister and every minister is checked through the propriety and ethics team.
The spokesman denied the Government’s position had changed because of a backlash from ministers: “No, it’s just a function of making sure given the significant interest in this that we are providing all the details as soon as we have them.”
