A cricket club has been targeted by vandals for more than two years, costing it hundreds of pounds, its chairman has revealed.
“Their actions can deter people from sitting where they’d like to sit or even coming to the club at all. We want to increase our membership but we have no chance if this anti-social behaviour carries on. The club was able to bend back the structure of the roll covers on this occasion. He says that the ‘abusive nature’ of the teenagers forced the club to set up CCTV after being silent over the last few years about the issue. The costs of the damages add to the mounting bills the club already faces.
The club also has old machinery for cutting the grass and practice nets that need replacing. He says over the years the club has had its fencing, nets, benches and chairs wrecked, and youths have scribbled foul language on the club’s property. “We would like to run more opportunities for children in the area but we need help. Funding social clubs would be a good investment because they provide a good service for the community and they allow children to engage in something good, rather than indulging in anti-social behaviour.”
