The car veered across the freeway, striking a guardrail and a sign pole before bursting into flames.
One person died late Wednesday after a single vehicle crashed on Interstate 880 in Milpitas and burst into flames, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP received reports of the crash at about 11:55 p.m. According to a news release from the department, a 2004 Toyota was traveling southbound on I-880, just north of Highway 237 near Anthony Spangler Elementary School. The car suddenly veered to the right, crossing multiple lanes before colliding with a metal guardrail.
