The actress has ruffled feathers after saying she’s ready to move on from Stranger Things – but we should have more empathy, it was clear she was going to be a star. With a shaved head and blood trickling out of her nose, she stole the show as Eleven, the creepy-looking but vulnerable girl who had grown up in a lab and would now use her special powers to help save Hawkins from the Upside Down.– which is one of Netflix’s most successful productions ever – Brown is 19, and ready to move on.
At a glance, you can see why it might ruffle some feathers. At 19 she is reportedly worth $14m, is friends with Drake, and already the best-known actress of her generation. For many people, the immediate response is that she has no idea how lucky she is. This is obviously a non sequitur – and the desecration of Brown does feel a little unfair, too. When she was first famous she didn’t exactly have the emotional faculties to make an informed decision about whether it was what she wanted; she ended up spending perhaps the most formative years of her life as an A-list celebrity. Not only is this bound to make her take things slightly for granted, since it’s all she’s ever known – but it also means that it’s impossible for us to empathise with her.
