Evan Etzweiler was committed to Dauphin County Prison Friday.
Pennsylvania state trooper vechicle. February 9, 2022. Dan Gleiter | [email protected] Millersburg man was arrested on firearms and other charges Friday after a police investigation triggered by threats of violence found he’d lied during an attempt to purchase a handgun last fall.
Pennsylvania State Police at Lykens said their investigation began after they got a tip earlier this month about social media posts allegedly made by Etzweiler showing photos of a gun on a desk. The tipster said he was concerned because he believed that Etzweiler, because of previous involuntary mental health commitments, was not supposed to possession a gun.
As the investigation progressed, police said they learned Etzweiler had been sending harassing messages to a woman who had recently broken off a relationship with him. That woman said the messages, based on her knowledge of Etzweiler’s background and that he had a gun, had made her fearful, police said.
Police said their investigation also showed Etzweiler had given false information on a background check form during the purchase of a fourth gun in November 2021.
