Sports Direct founder and former Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has agreed to buy Headingley from Yorkshire County Cricket Club , reports suggest.
Now, Ashley, who founded Sports Direct, will reportedly see off the interest and safeguard the club's future. The 160-year-old club have been in turmoil since being accused of institutional racism by Azeem Rafiq in 2021. The claim cost them around £3.5m in legal costs and compensation payments, leaving a whopping £2.2million lost from the club's fund.YCC reportedly rejected a number of offers to buy Headingley in a bid to pursue Ashley.
