The Scottish Government will this week publish its latest discussion paper on the benefits of ending the Union.
The importance of migration to Scotland's future would be recognised if the country voted for independence in the future, an SNP minister has said.
The paper, to be published on Friday, will also propose a new humane approach for asylum seekers in Scotland. "Independence would give Scotland the opportunity to set its own migration policy that delivers for our specific needs. "The next paper in the Building a New Scotland series will explain just how we intend to deliver that and I look forward to setting out our proposals later this week."
It forced a rethink of SNP strategy on independence and eventually saw members back a new plan earlier this month.
