EXCLUSIVE: Wildlife presenter Michaela Strachan, who stars in BBC's Pilgrimage: The Road Through North Wales, has revealed the death of her best friend hit her 'very hard'
Michaela Strachan has opened up on the tragic death of her best friend, who died 10 years after her own shock diagnosis.
The recent loss of her best friend and fellow Really Wild Show colleague Lucy Bowden is a poignant reminder of the disease. “Every so often I'm reminded that a lot of my friends are suffering with cancer. But Lucy lives on in the hearts of those who love her, and Michaela is reminded her often. "I was filming a show about parakeets and found out that day of filming that she had died. Now, every time I look at parakeets I think of her."
And in Michaela’s beautiful, wildlife-inspired way, certain birds remind her of Lucy. “I was filming a show about parakeets and found out that day of filming that she had died. Now, every time I look at parakeets I think of her.” "Some of it was absolutely beautiful and some of it was such fun and really interesting to be with six other celebrities that l've never met before," the Springwatch star said.
She added reflectively: "I was probably not my robust self during filming, but that also made the walking side of it incredibly therapeutic and healing. I don't follow any organised religion. My faith is in the natural world, but meeting people who are spiritually connected, you know, whatever background they come from and giving you comforting words when you're feeling sad is very precious and to be able to meet those people during that time was very precious.
