The British multi-hyphenate's follow-up to I May Destroy You is finally on the way
It’s not an overstatement to say that the 2020 series I May Destroy You by Michaela Coel changed the face of television drama as we knew it. The 12-part series – written by, starring and co-directed by Coel – was almost genreless; an astoundingly original and impactful show based on Coel’s own experience of sexual assault, exploring themes of consent, race and modern relationships in a nuanced and darkly comedic manner.Accolades and awards followed.
What’s the big idea?First Day On Earth is about a British novelist, Henri , who finds that her work has dried up and she’s in a dead-end relationship, so she heads out to Ghana to work on a film. Ghana is Henri’s parents' homeland – and where her estranged father lives – and she sees this as an opportunity to reconnect with him.
