The experienced boss has returned to the dugout but his appointment has been branded fortuitous by one of his critics.
Michael Stewart has continued his feud with Craig Levein after the former Scotland boss' appointment at St Johnstone.
The 59-year-old returned to the dugout for the first time since leaving Hearts in 2019 at the Premiership strugglers, signing a deal until 2026. He has not seen eye-to-eye with former Jambos midfielder Stewart in recent years, who was a vocal critic of thee manager during his time at Tynecastle. And with his McDiarmid Park reign underway, the pundit has picked up where he left off.
Speaking on Sportsound as St Johnstone hosted Ross County at McDiarmid Park, Stewart was asked about Levein's appointment. And he was blunt in his response: "He's fortunate, extremely fortunate. I think if you look at the fact he has managed for two years out of the last 11, and those two years were far from successful, I would suggest any manager would be fortunate to be landing themselves a gig in the top flight.
"It'd be a very good achievement . There's a fair amount of work that is needed to be done there and if St Johnstone manage to steer themselves clear of trouble, it'd be a good job." Levein started his tenure with a 2-2 draw at home to Motherwell. Nicky Clark and Andy Considine fired them into a two-goal lead before the Steelmen hit back through Shane Blaney and Mika Biereth.
