Northern Ireland boss highlights key difference in Blundell Park role
Michael O'Neill believes David Healy is "more than capable" of managing at a higher level as the Linfield boss continues to be linked with the vacant managerial post at Grimsby Town.
Healy has played down rumours linking his with the job at Blundell Park, and O'Neill said if Northern Ireland's record goal scorer was to end up at the League Two strugglers it would be a very different job to the one he currently has at Windsor Park. “An opportunity may have been there in the past but he’s had a hugely successful eight years at Linfield and he’s had a brilliant career here, won a lot," said O'Neill.“The reality of the situation is that if he does take that step you look at Grimsby, they are a few places off the bottom and he won’t be going there to win trophies.
“He would go there to survive and that’s the nature of the opportunities that arise. It’s the same at St Johnstone in Scotland as they appoint Craig Levein. “The scenario would be very different for him than at Linfield but he’s more than capable of managing at a different level to the domestic league.“I didn’t envisage that I would be the next Northern Ireland manager, I thought I would go into Scottish football or in the English game.“He manages with a huge amount of expectation here and that will help him should be move somewhere else but the job would be very different.
