The annual black-tie event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in Manhattan is always the hottest ticket in town and provides mere mortals with a glimpse into a world where fame and wealth collide with art and fashion to create one of the planet’s most spectacular red carpets.organises the entire event, which is a huge fundraiser for the Met’s Costume Institute. Last year, it raised about $22m for the department.
About 250 pieces from the institute’s permanent collection, spanning four centuries – including some garments rarely seen in public and so delicate they need to be under glass – will be on view.
