Meryl Streep confirms she has been split from husband for 'more than six years'

Meryl Streep has confirmed in a statement that she separated from her husband Don Gummer more than six years ago.

The 74 year old actress – who has starred in movies such as Mamma Mia!, The Devil Wears Prada and Death Becomes Her – married sculptor Don, 76, in 1978.

The statement reads: "Don Gummer and Meryl Streep have been separated for more than 6 years, and while they will always care for each other, they have chosen lives apart." The pair met in 1978 after being introduced by her brother, Henry, following the death of Meryl's late boyfriend John Cazale who had passed away from lung cancer at the age of 42 earlier that year.
