Domnall Starkie says he wants to be as 'sustainable, cruelty free and fair trade as possible'
A Derry designer appearing in the new series of Interior Design Masters with Alan Carr tonight said he takes an approach that is "as sustainable, cruelty free and fair trade as possible" to his art.
Speaking to Belfast Live, Domnall gave little away about the competition itself but admitted a degree of surprise at how difficult the competition proved to be. Domnall told Belfast Live: "I remember watching it and thinking, why? Why are they doing that when you're there? They work you hard. The pressure is on. It's not like it would be normally. I used to say, I kind of felt like Goldie Hawn in Private Benjamin ."In its profile of the Derry designer, the BBC say: "Domnall was brought up in Derry.
"In 2023, Domnall completed his most sustainable interior design project to date - designing a bar and restaurant for the Millennium Forum Theatre in Derry. Domnall is eco-conscious in his designs and prefers using sustainable, non-toxic materials, such as pineapple leather and he sources and refurbishes preloved furniture."
So it's like I'll use this 'breathe easy' paint, which is vegan and it just mean that it's not toxic to anybody. You know, especially if you're getting somebody to do work for you, I don't want somebody who's doing work for me to have to breathe in toxic fumes. Do you know what I mean?
