A McGrath man died Monday afternoon when he was struck by a vehicle attempting to help pull his vehicle from the ditch, Alaska State Troopers said.

Thomas Coyle, 83, was stuck Monday when a person driving past the area in a Ford F-150 truck offered to help pull Coyle’s truck from the ditch using a tow strap, troopers. “In the process of hooking up the strap, the tow vehicle lurched backwards unknowingly striking Thomas and knocking him down,” troopers said.

Health aides were called to the scene but Coyle died from injuries, troopers said. Troopers responded to the village from Aniak and said Coyle’s body was being transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Anchorage for autopsy. No foul play is suspected and no citations or charges have been filed, according to troopers spokesman Tim DeSpain.
