They have confirmed the 'transition' as part of their commitment to offer customers 'balanced choices'
McDonald’s has launched a big shake up of its menu again by switching to sugar-free versions of Fanta and Oasis. The move is being introduced across all its 1,300 UK restaurants - and has left some very upset, Mirror reports.
It will see a medium Fanta Orange, which contains 18g of sugar and 76 calories, swapped for the zero version, which contains just 4 calories. A medium sized Oasis contains 17g of sugar and 67 calories, but the Summer Fruits Zero has 2g of sugar and 12 calories. McDonald’s will continue to sell classic Coca-Cola, which has 42g of sugar, according to The Sun. One disgruntled fan posted on X/ Twitter: “Why are you getting rid of full sugar Fanta? Why is coke the only sugar drink you’ll do?”
A McDonald’s spokesperson told The Sun: “As part of our ongoing commitment to offer our customers more balanced choices, we started transitioning from Fanta Orange and Oasis Summer Fruits to Fanta Orange Zero and Oasis Zero Summer Fruits across all restaurants in the UK and Ireland from September. Restaurants will clearly display signage when the changes are taking place, and we will continue to provide options such as Coca-Cola Classic and Irn-Bru .
It comes as McDonald's prepares to introduce new menu items this week, including a new version of its McCrispy. Fans can expect to see the McCrispy BBQ Smokehouse, which contains a chicken breast in a crispy coating, smothered in a smoky BBQ sauce, cheddar cheese, red onion and lettuce in a sesame-topped burger bun.
