MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS: Mayor Eric Adams announced new plans for what he says is an ongoing mental illness crisis in NewYorkCity. MORE:
Adams' plan focuses on addressing those left untreated and unsheltered in city streets and subways. His vision includes an immediate directive being issued to city agencies and contractors involved in evaluating and providing care to those in a psychiatric crisis so that more of those in need of help can receive it.
In addition, the mayor announced the deployment of new clinical co-response teams to New York City subways. They are training in partnership with the state for all first responders and will help respond to those experiencing mental health issues The city is also developing a tele-consult line to provide officers with direct access to clinicians to develop a compassionate response for those suffering with untreated serious mental illness, according to the mayor.
