Alex Lee, from North Carolina, was visiting Maui with his family when they saw"dark smoke" and then a"puff" that got bigger and bigger, he told NBC's Tom Llamas. His family decided to evacuate as a precaution and camp out at the airport in Maui until they could catch a flight home."It's been rough; a rough couple of days," Lee said, sitting next to a makeshift bed on the floor.
Others vacating in Hawaii have been forced to do the same.
