Boys basketball: Matt Symmank wraps first season as Langham Creek head coach
Langham Creek’s Tyson Rathan-Mayes, left, drives around Cypress Ranch’s Justin Norris during the first half of their UIL Region II-6A boys basketball regional quarterfinals game held at the Berry Center Tuesday, Mar. 1, 2022 in Cypress, TX.Matt Symmank is five years removed from winning the Class 6A state championship as part of Cypress Falls’ coaching staff in 2016-17.
In the regional quarterfinals, Langham Creek suffered a double-digit loss against district foe Cy Ranch , March 1, at the Berry Center. The Lobos trailed 20-5 after the first quarter and were down by double digits the next two periods. The former Lobo wrapped his first year as head coach at Langham Creek after spending seven years under head coach Richard Flores at Cy Falls. He took over the Lobo program after Ament left for another job within Cy-Fair ISD.
Symmank thinks District 16-6A is one of the toughest in the city of Houston. Three of the four playoff teams, with the exception of Bridgeland, competed for a chance to go the regional tournament.
