Gaetz made the comment in an interview Thursday night with Fox News host Laura Ingraham, who had raised the possibility of some Democrats helping to elect McCarthy or a different Republican as a way to break the current stalemate. In return, Ingraham speculated, the Democrats would “share power on the committees.”
Meanwhile, McCarthy has failed to secure enough votes after 11 tries, with an ultra-conservative bloc that includes Gaetz standing in the way.“I’m on the floor, Laura. These 212 Democrats are going to vote for Hakeem Jeffries every single time,” Gaetz said. “He is a historic candidate for them. They are not going to cleave off under any circumstance.”
