Maryport will receive £5m from the Future High Streets Fund as part of regeneration efforts.
A leisure centre revamp and the creation of a harbourside events area will go ahead after the government confirmed £5m for regeneration efforts in a Cumbrian town.
Maryport's Wave Centre is set to benefit from a play centre, expanded gym and refurbished climbing wall.Cumberland Council leader Mark Fryer described it as "brilliant news".Mr Fryer said: "To meet the terms of the government funding, we had to show that the new investment plans will improve the experience for those living in and visiting Maryport, drive growth and ensure the town's future viability.
"It is brilliant news that these new initiatives obviously meet all those criteria and have been received so positively." The council said the funding takes the total amount being spent on regeneration projects across the town to £12m.Its former home on Shipping Brow
