Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige to Speak at USC Commencement
Feige serves as head of Marvel Studios, home of the interconnected Marvel Cinematic Universe . He is the force behind several MCU films and series such as the Academy Award-winning “Black Panther,” “Avengers: Endgame,” “Guardians of the Galaxy” and the recent “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” Feige graduated from the USC School of Cinematic Arts in 1995.
“My USC experience played such a fundamental part in who I have become, both as a filmmaker and as a person,” Feige said. “Of course, they never have to ask me twice to come back and talk with students, but I’m honored and humbled to be asked to be the commencement speaker celebrating the 2023 graduating class as they carry their own USC experience into the world to do big things as part of the next generation of storytellers and innovators and leaders.
“Guillermo del Toro has stunningly brought humanity to non-human characters and full-fledged existence to environments which could be seen as devoid of life by integrating strong narrative imagery into his collaborations with production designers,” remarked Nelson Coates, ADG president. “The Art Directors Guild is thrilled to celebrate his captivating work, which has indelibly pushed the bounds of production design to new heights.
The symposium will use a hybrid format of both in-person and online activities such as film screenings, artist talks, panels and “Asian Spice-Up!,” public events surrounding Asian cooking and grocery stores. Panels and artist talks will permit Asian diaspora education through the perspective of scholars and artists, with a discussion surrounding national identity, forced displacement and community representation through design. Online talks will take place on Jan. 28 and Feb. 25, and an in-person talk will take place Feb. 11.
