In doing so, the next step of Carol Danvers' Marvel story actually reveals more of why she doesn't appear in Avengers: Infinity War, and why she's been largely absent from Earth since her origin story way back in the 1990s.

Cursed with the knowledge that Earth could not survive the failure of the Avengers - which he took as a personal failure - Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark almost destroyed himself with his obsession.
Iron Man was a superheroism-aholic, committed to a constant state of vigil, guarding Earth and wanting to throw a suit of armor around it, even when that led to near-catastrophes like Ultron's rise in Avengers: Age Of Ultron. Look at Captain Marvel in The Marvels trailer, isolated and constantly on guard, and you see the same picture of obsession.
