Latest Nottingham Forest news as Martin O'Neill reflects on Reds spell as player and manager as he takes up new role
The Northern Irishman lasted just 19 games at the helm of the Reds five years ago. He was appointed in January 2019, after Aitor Karanka had been given the boot, then was axed himself that summer.
He added: “Do I regret going to Forest? Yes, absolutely. If I’d known we would win the last three games of the season and I would be called in a week into pre-season training to be told the way I was running the football club was not the way they wanted to run it – which is how they put it – I wouldn’t have taken the job in the first place.
O’Neill is one of Forest’s Miracle Men. And although times have changed since the Reds conquered Europe under Brian Clough, he has no doubt his old boss would have been able to adapt to managing in the modern era.
