The consumer champion shared how to quickly get 'hundreds of pounds' back into your pocket.
Martin Lewis is urging everyone paying their energy bills by monthly Direct Debit to check whether they have built up too much credit with their provider before heading into the summer months. The consumer champion told BBC Radio 5 Live listeners on Wednesday that households are at a “crucial point in the Direct Debit cycle” this month and could be due refunds worth ‘hundreds of pounds’.
The financial guru said essentially this means if you are sitting with a month and a half’s worth of credit on your energy credit - although some people could have built up much more - it’s the perfect time to contact your supplier and politely ask for the money to be refunded. Top Money Stories Today Martin said: “You pay the same amount each month, even more in the winter, and we use less in the summer but it smooths out that usage, so whether you're in debt or you’re in credit it depends on where in the cycle you are.”
He continued: “If you're in credit right now by a month, two months or three months then you are too much in credit because the best case scenario at this point is you shouldn't have any credit.”
