The National Weather Service issued a warning on Monday of a marginal risk of thunderstorms in California's San Francisco Bay Area early Tuesday, followed by a warming trend later in the week.
"The potential for thunderstorms is spotty at best," the weather service said in a statement on Monday afternoon."Confidence is low as the risk may only skirt the periphery of the East and North Bay regions. However, some hi-resolution models show that a few thunderstorms could pop up within East & North Bay and given the fuels are very dry, any strike could mean a fire start.
The chance for thunderstorms comes as monsoonal moisture form the desert Southwest and Southern California climbs northward. The window for storm activity in the Bay Area is between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. Tuesday. Locally gusty winds, lightning and fire starts are all possible, but the chances for lightning stand at only 10%, the weather service said.
