Inflation likely remained stubbornly high in March as price pressures continue to squeeze household budgets despite Federal Reserve interest rate hikes.
KPMG Chief Economist Diane Swonk says it's important to remember rapid rate hikes can exacerbate market fragility.
While that would mark the slowest pace of inflation since May 2021, it remains nearly three times higher than the Fed's 2% target. Officials have already approved nine straight rate increases, lifting the federal funds rate to a range of 4.75% to 5%, the highest since before the 2008 financial crisis.
