Two students helping lead March for Our Lives say police violence is gun violence — here's how they're organizing to end it (by mariahbcooley and eve_levenson)

Rallying March for Our Lives in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, Cooley and Levenson have organized protests to champion Black activist voices, declare that police violence is gun violence, and demand justice for Black people killed at the hands of police. Cooley and Levenson are also fighting for equity through legislative change on Capitol Hill, from advocating for the end of programs that promote the militarization of civilian police, to supporting the early release of imprisoned nonviolent offenders. The murder of George Floyd shocked the nation and shook the world. Mr. Floyd's death isn't the first malicious act of police violence against a Black body to make its way around the internet. Neither is Mr.

The unrest following the injustice this time around — three weeks strong and counting — is considered among the largest civil rights demonstrations in recent history. And it's our generation of people, primarily 25 and younger, who are turning to the streets en masse as a way of introducing ourselves to the world as adults.American Gen Zers have experienced trauma since we were children in a nation that fails to protect our lives at the playground, in school, or in the places we hang out.
