The ban is set to be extended
A map Nottingham has revealed the areas and streets of the city where public drinking is banned. Hundreds of streets have been subjected to the order, with a decision to extend the ban for a further three years now under consultation.
A host of roads in Nottingham City Centre, Sneinton, Arboretum, Hyson Green, St Ann's, Radford and more are alcohol-free areas. Busy streets, such as Mansfield Road and Alfreton Road, are a couple of the hundreds where alcohol consumption is prohibited. Certain parks, community spaces and car parks are also covered by the Public Space Protection Order . Orders were made under the Criminal Justice and Police Act 2001, which introduced Designated Public Place Orders and allowed local authorities to designate public areas where the consumption of alcohol was restricted.Nottingham City Council made eight separate DPPOs between 2005 and 2014, according to a document published by the city council on March 17.
A consultation in relation to the proposed three-year extension has been authorised. A police warning is required before an offence is committed, with a maximum fine of £500 on conviction.
