Moff Gideon has been chasing Grogu in both seasons of TheMandalorian. Giancarlo Esposito, who plays the show's villain, reveals his first reaction to seeing the Grogu puppet, even foreseeing the little creature becoming a star.
The Mandalorian struck Star Wars gold with Grogu's creation for the first-ever live-action series on Disney+, and even the show's antagonist, Giancarlo Esposito, couldn't help but fall in love with the force-sensitive creature. The Mandalorian premiered in 2019 as the first original series to release on Disney's streaming platform, and it has since become a pop-culture phenomenon.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Giancarlo Esposito, who plays The Mandalorian's primary antagonist Moff Gideon, recalled his first time seeing the Grogu puppet on the set of the Star Wars series. He told Jimmy Fallon that he was blown away and that he couldn't take his eyes off the now-iconic little green creature, which the esteemed actor described as fascinating and mysterious.
“We walk by a table, and he said, casually, ‘Hey, you want to take a look at the Child?’ And he pulls off the canvas, and I look at this practical child. And he explained to me, it was going to be this, it was going to be that, CGI… And I said no, this is perfect, and then the puppeteer walked by at that very moment.
Where his story goes from there, though, is up for debate. Moff Gideon has a way of manipulating people, which could aid him in his escape. While Gideon has been portrayed as the head of the Imperial remnants, there's reason to believe that he is working for a bigger threat. That threat could be Grand Admiral Thrawn, though his whereabouts remain a mystery that likely won't be fully explored until the upcoming Ahsoka series.
Gideon lost the darksaber in his duel with Din Djarin in The Mandalorian season 2 finale, and with the weapon now in the titular character's possession, that will cause further friction with former Mandalore ruler Bo Katan. The Mandalorian season 3 is set to have drama among the series' protagonists because of Gideon's actions in season 2, and the fight over the darksaber could be a deadly one for a civilization that the old Empire already decimated.
