Council bosses previously vowed that the big free Christmas lights event would return for 2023 - but the switch-on is OFF for another year
There will be NO big Christmas Lights Switch-on event in Manchester for 2023 - despite the council vowing last year that it would return after the disappointment of the plug pulled in 2022. Council bosses are yet again blaming "no safe or suitable location" in the city centre for the event.

Bosses blamed "rising costs" and "pressure on budgets" for pulling its traditional free fireworks displays.
Councillor Pat Karney, Manchester's Christmas spokesperson, said: "We know how special the Christmas Lights Switch-on events are to Manchester families. The event always marked the official start of Christmas in our city and although we have been unable to stage them for a few years, we will see them again in the future.
