Man Utd have found it difficult so far this season to kill games off and play with a sense of swagger and freedom.
There are three certainties in life: death, taxes and Manchester United winning by a one-goal margin.
But missed opportunities have been the story of United's season so far. Eight of their nine wins in all competitions so far this season have been secured by just one goal - their 3-0 Carabao Cup triumph over Crystal Palace in September the only exception. However, after investing such a lavish amount of money in the summer transfer window, United would have expected to improve on last season's third-placed finish and continue to develop their style of play. That, however, has not been the case so far, though their endless list of injuries to key players has obviously disrupted their plans.
And that is something Ten Hag highlighted at the very beginning of his Old Trafford rein. He outlined how he wanted to turn United back into entertainers, playing free-flowing and attacking football, though he highlighted the importance of winning by any means necessary. United, to their credit, have found ways to win so far this season, often by digging in deep. That is an important quality to have, but it does risk making life harder and increasing supporters' stress levels.
