Andre Onana produced a strong save to deny Jordan Larsson in added time as Man United picked up their first Champions League points of the season.
Andre Onana was the hero on Tuesday night with a late penalty save as Manchester United beat FC Copenhagen 1-0 - although he had a helping hand from Alejandro Garnacho.
United picked up their first points of the season in Europe, Harry Maguire scoring the only goal of the game at Old Trafford with a close-range header. After a poor first-half, Erik ten Hag's side pushed on after the break and created enough chances to win the game comfortably. But not only were they unable to extend their advantage, the home side looked set to drop two points when Scott McTominay was penalised for a high foot and Copenhagen were awarded a penalty. But Garnacho was seemingly hard at work elsewhere, with wide-angle replays showing the Argentinian scuffing up the penalty spot unchallenged. Jordan Larsson stuttered his run and saw his penalty palmed away by Onana, but the spot was visibly roughed up and Garnacho's ploy may have had an impact. Supporters took to social media after the game to praise their young forward.
Victory lifts United off the bottom of Group A, Ten Hag's side leapfrogging Copenhagen into third. More importantly, they are now a point behind Galatasaray in the second qualification spot, with Bayern Munich pulling ahead and set to take top spot. United will be aiming to qualify for the knockout rounds but they could drop into the Europa League should they finish third.
