Man United takeover hopeful Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani withdrew from the process earlier this month leaving the door open for Sir Jim Ratcliffe
Manchester United fans continue to await news on Sir Jim Ratcliffe's investment in the club but the INEOS founder remains primed to join the boardroom.
With Ratcliffe now the only contender left in the race, it is expected he will purchase a 25 per cent minority stake in the Reds but still hopes to complete a full takeover in time. While no official announcement has been made on the arrival of the British billionaire, speculation still remains as to what was the factor which pushed Sheikh Jassim out of the process.
Sheikh Jassim agreement 'close before Glazers U-turn' According to football finance expert Kieran Maguire, Sheikh Jassim was nearing a full buyout until the Glazers changed their stance at the last minute. He explained to Football Insider: "I’m not surprised that Qatar completely withdrew. "Yet every time they felt they were close to shaking hands on a deal, the terms were changed. In the end, they didn’t want to be taken advantage of."
