Police say a man who told them he was looking for a prostitute when he grabbed a woman sleeping near a convenience store instead, is facing rape, kidnapping and sex abuse charges.
SALT LAKE CITY — A Salt Lake man who police say told them he was looking for a prostitute but thought it would be easier to grab a woman he saw sleeping near a convenience store is now facing felony charges.
Jesse Hannssel Orozco-Galicia, 37, was charged Monday in 3rd District Court with aggravated kidnapping and object rape, first-degree felonies; and forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony. About 2:50 a.m. on Aug. 18, Orozco-Galicia was at a Salt Lake convenience store when he saw a woman sleeping on the grass near the corner of 1000 West and North Temple. He would later tell detectives that he was "looking for a prostitute prior to locating in the grass. Orozco-Galicia admitted that he thought it would be easier to have sex with because of the way he found her lying on the ground," according to charging documents.
Orozco-Galicia picked up the woman, whom he had never met, put her into the back of his car and sped away, according to a police booking affidavit. " stated that Orozco-Galicia told her they were going to have sex. Orozco-Galicia eventually stopped the car and tried to pull down pants, but fought and kicked him in the throat," the charges state.
