Man killed by pickup while walking on freeway near Kearny Mesa identified [Breaking]
A 61-year-old man who was walking on a freeway near Kearny Mesa when he was fatally struck Friday was identified this week as a San Diego resident.
Richard Anthony Rollo had been driving north in an Acura sedan around noon when his car was involved in a minor crash with a semi-truck on Interstate 805, south of state Route 52, the county Medical Examiner’s Office said in a news release. Rollo pulled over to the right shoulder of the freeway while the semi-truck parked on the left side, California Highway Patrol Officer Jesse Matias said last week.The man walked across the transition lanes to exchange information with the driver of the semi-truck, Matias said. After the two drivers spoke, the man attempted to walk back to his car.The man died before he could be taken to a hospital.
The driver of the pickup stayed at the scene and spoke with investigators. The incident is under investigation.
