SINGAPORE — It was a simple plan to steal some liquid assets: Coins used as payment at water dispensing machines in Housing and Development Board (HDB) car parks. Customers use the water to wash their cars.
On learning that all one needed was a screwdriver to unlock the machines, Muhammad Nabil and Abdul Razak agreed to join a third individual in a conspiracy to steal coins from such machines across the island, thinking it would be a quick way to earn money.
District Judge Eddy Tham granted a request by the 26-year-old to begin his sentence Feb 16 so that he can settle his personal affairs. The machines are generally located within the multi-storey carparks at public housing estates. A customer pays S$1 for three minutes of water dispensation.
