He had been subjected to a 'traumatic affair'
A businessman who was forced to close his divisive rabbit farm is planning to set up a breeding centre for alpacas. Phil Kerry, who recently shut his East Bridgford rabbit farm after nearly a year of campaigner opposition and break-ins, has applied to build a new alpaca breeding facility in Derbyshire.
Despite this experience, the businessman has now applied to open a new venture involving more animals. He has applied for permission for a temporary rural workers dwelling and new agricultural building to support a new alpaca breeding enterprise on land off Turlowfield Lane, Hognaston, Derbyshire. Previously permission was granted to build a rural dwelling for a worker and an agricultural building in connection with a free-range rabbit farm. An application for the erection of a rural workers dwelling and agricultural/food production building was refused on September 21, 2021.
A number of objections have been made to the plans, including from a representative of Shut Down T&S - the campaigning group Mr Kerry handed his rabbits to when the farm closed. Others locally expressed worries about the alpacas that would be on the site and about protecting the land from further development.
