Man flown to the hospital following fiery crash with 18-wheeler, officials say
The Houston Fire Department responded to a non fatal crash Sunday morning involving an 18-wheeler and a pickup truck.A pickup driver was hospitalized after crashing into a parked semi-truck, starting a fire, according to the Houston Fire Department.
Before firefighters arrived in the area of Interstate 45 inbound and Gulf Bank around 12:20 a.m. Sunday, the fire caused by the crash already had been extinguished, Houston Fire official Alvin McCrorey told OnScene reporters.The pickup driver had been pinned under the back trailer of the 18-wheeler and the trailer had to be lifted to rescue him, McCrorey said. Once freed from the wreckage, the man had to be flown by air ambulance to a nearby hospital.
